The RASS Advisory Board began its Fair Share Campaign in 2000 to help fund its ambitious seven-point plan. In a demonstration of leadership and commitment, RASS began its fundraising efforts among retailers from across the state.
Over 90 ABC Boards, convenience and grocery store chains, representing more than 1,000 outlets, have participated in the Campaign so far. They have contributed over $26,000.
Every store that sells alcohol in North Carolina is asked to contribute a $25 donation per store to support on-going RASS activities. The funds are currently being used to create a grassroots media and in-store signage campaign and to support local coalition activities.
The RASS plan benefits all on- and off-premise establishments. The Fair Share Campaign gives retailers an opportunity to take a proactive role in supporting the RASS plan. This Campaign is being conducted in a way that makes it possible for large and small operations to participate.
However, the Fair Share Campaign is not limited to retailers. Since the problem of underage drinking affects the entire community, RASS welcomes and encourages contributions from other community members.
Campaign contributors receive a certificate acknowledging their commitment to reducing underage alcohol sales and a RASS sticker to display on their front window or door.
The grassroots media and in-store signage campaign and local coalition activities will increase awareness, understanding and cooperation among retailers, law enforcement and the general public. Ultimately, these efforts aim to improve the health of North Carolina youth.
